国际演讲会中国区（Toastmasters International District 85）历史及现状

国际演讲会的会员需要年满18周岁，中国区的会员以中青年为主。90％以上的会员都是在职人士，10％左右为在校大学生。85％左右为中国国籍（包括港澳），15％左右为在华外籍人士。

中国大陆第一个演讲分会于1999年在上海成立。 国际演讲会中国区于2006－2007年间成立，其后大力支持和帮助演讲分会在大陆多个城市的创办和成长。从2006年到2010年，短短4年间，中国大陆的演讲分会由20个增长到100多个。港澳地区的演讲分会于2010年7月1日加入国际演讲会中国区。所以，到2010年底，中国区演讲分会总数约180个，会员近5000名。在过去几年间，中国区的演讲分会和会员的增长率在所有演讲会分区中一直名列前三。这也反映了中国民众对提高公众演讲能力、沟通技能和领导力有着巨大的需求。

中国区演讲分会主要分布在大中型沿海城市，近两年也发展到一些中西部城市。大多数演讲分会使用英文，不过也有不少普通话、广东话或者双语演讲分会。

近些年很多国际知名公司也纷纷在公司内部建立演讲分会，以帮助员工提高沟通和领导能力。在中国区有约半数的演讲分会为公司或高校内部分会。

History and Current status of Toastmasters International District 85

Members of Toastmasters International need to be adults who are above 18 years old. District 85’s members are mostly people between 20 and 50 years old, with more than 90% of them being working professionals and about 10% college students. 85% of the members are Chinese citizens (including people at Hong Kong and Macau), and the rest 15% are expatriates at China.

The first Toastmasters club in mainland China was started in Shanghai in 1999. District 85 was established in the year of 2006-2007, and it has been a huge help and support for the establishment and growth of Toastmasters clubs around China. In the 4 years between 2006 and 2010, the number of Toastmasters clubs in China grew from about 20 to more than 100. Toastmasters club in HK and Macau area joined District 85 on July 1st, 2010. Therefore, in the end of 2010, there are about 180 Toastmasters clubs in District 85, and nearly 5000 members. For the past few years, the growth rate of Toastmasters clubs and members in District 85 has always been among the top 3, in comparison with all the Toastmasters International Districts around the world. This had indicated Chinese people have huge need for improving their public speaking, communication and leadership skills.

Toastmasters clubs are mostly located in large or medium level cities on the coastal area, and the recent two years has seen Toastmasters clubs being started in some cities in mid-western areas of China。 Though most of the clubs are English clubs, there are some Mandarin, Cantonese or Bilingual clubs.

In recent years, many famous international companies in China have also started internal Toastmasters clubs, to help their staff improving their communication and leadership skills. Currently, about half of all the Toastmasters clubs in China are corporate or university clubs. For example, companies like Microsoft, Motorola, Dell, Alcatel-Lucent, HSBC, China Construction Bank have at least two Toastmasters clubs within the company.
